Fix inconsistent state of the button to show/hide progress information.

slotToggleVisibility() doesn't always actually toggle visibility,
it does nothing when trying to open during the short time after the
last item went away (but we're still showing 100% progress in the
statusbar). So query the state, rather than just assuming toggling
worked.
