Fix various startup/shutdown issues:

- no more spurious error messages about a failed startup blaming your
  D-Bus setup
- disconnect from the database befor shutting down to make the MySQL
  shutdown a lot faster
- fix crash on shutdown due to socket deletion from the wrong thread
